First off, I would like to say thank you to everyone who provided me with suggestions for future blogs. I now have a much better idea of what people would like to read about. I hope to keep people entertained as much as possible. The winner of the giveaway is listed below.
In the meantime, I thought you guys would like to take a look at one of the most complicated timepieces Breitling has ever made. The price tag on this bad boy is over half a million dollars! Known as the Embiricos Grand Complication pocket watch, the model features the original Breitling Calibre 112 complicated movement. Breitling did it right and constructed the pocket watch so that the back of it can be opened up for the movement to be seen through a sapphire crystal. It is gorgeous!
The Embiricos features a 58mm rose gold case, a perpetual calendar, a minute repeater and a chronograph. I love minute repeaters. A repeater is a complication that audibly chimes the current time in hours and minutes when a button is pressed. Some repeaters chime just the hours, while others use separate tones for the hours, quarter hours and minutes. Originally they were made for people who struggled to see the time in the dark or the visually impaired, but nowadays they are typically valued as collector’s items.
The pocket watch is named after the Embiricos Bentley car. As I am sure many of you already know, Breitling and Bentley have a solidified partnership with one another. Most guys who love cars also love watches. The unique one-of-a-kind Embirico car was built in 1937 for a member of the Embiricos family, a Greek shipping magnate. A picture of the car is on the cover of the pocket watch, and the face of the watch has a classic Breitling design. What a beast of a piece!
The winner of the giveaway is Douglas Schrauben. Doug, please contact me so that I am able to get you your goodies! For the rest of you, don’t worry, there will be many more.
